DIY Sugar Scrub

DIY Sugar Scrub Recipe

Treat your overworked, over sanitized hands with this simple DIY Sugar Scrub Recipe, for a moment of  pampering! Quick to make with just a few ingredients that you may even have on hand (no pun intended!) already.

What’s even nicer is the fact that you could use it on your arms, legs, and feet too! Start by making a small batch but you may quickly graduate to a bigger amount once you get hooked.

Fill up a larger jar and turn this from being a Sugar Scrub For Hands into a Homemade Sugar Body Scrub!

The kids and I made these homemade sugar scrubs this past Christmas for every female on our list youngest to oldest. Come to find out, even the guys like using it!

(Check out our Homesteading Gift Ideas post for other crafty presents)

If making this for yourself, you could store the scrub in any sealed container or jar.

If making it to give as gifts, you could keep it simple or get as fancy of a jar as you wish.

We purchased hinged jars from the Christmas Tree Shop, but I have seen similar at the Dollar Tree even.

Of course Amazon has an endless assortment as well!

Dry hand

9 out of 10 people that I have talked to the past few months, have mentioned how awfully dry their hands are.

Even worse than their usual winter dryness.

It’s no wonder though, as we have been cleaning and sanitizing WAY more than ever this past year.

Our hands have never been drenched in so many chemicals, so often, as they have been during the pandemic!

**Judgement Free Zone Reminder**

While many of us go as chemical free as possible in life, some of us work at places that don’t give much of a choice.

At work we have Sanitizing Stations everywhere. We are expected to use it whenever we clock in or out, use the break room, bathroom, phone, computer, etc…

Even the “cleaner” sanitizers could be harsh from such repeated use.

Treat Yourself And Your Skin

Dr Bronners Castile Soap
Essential Oils

* Disclaimer: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Below includes paid links.

All you will need is:

White Sugar- nothing special just keep it simple and cheap.

Oil-  you could use a fancier “skincare oil” like Jojoba or Shea Nut, or keep it simple with what you use for cooking, Almond, Avocado, or even Olive Oil! We personally like Jojoba Oil the best. But use whatever oil you may have in your cabinet.

Unscented Liquid Castile Soap– (can be substituted with baby shampoo)- If you only have scented Castile soap, you could use that instead and just skip the essential oils.

What is Castile soap?? Castile Soap is a vegetable based soap. Dr. Bronner’s is probably the most popular on the market. It’s Vegan, biodegradable, and you could use it for almost ANYTHING. People use it for things like washing their floors, their dishes, acne prone skin, even brushing teeth! I personally, am not a fan of washing dishes with it as I feel it doesn’t cut grease to my liking, however this is a staple at the homestead due to it being biodegradable, and it’s multi uses. Perfect for the outdoor shower too!!

Essential Oils (optional)- Pick your favorite scent or play with combinations! I LOVE peppermint. For our gifts , though, we did a Clove & Sweet Orange combo.

Jars- Again get as basic or as fancy as you would like. Keep in mind that you’ll be using a spoon to scoop it out so choose one with a wide mouth.
